A Connecticut assistant principal was exposed for discriminatory behavior, Tuesday. In an undercover interview Project Veritas caught the education administrator admitting that he refuses to hire Catholic teachers and that teachers work to hide liberal lessons into their curriculum. The video has gone viral and the assistant principal is now facing serious backlash.

Jeremy Bowland was caught in a 12-minute video discussing his approach to hiring and helping to run the school. Throughout the interview, he discusses how easy it is to teach students what to think and make them more liberal. The Connecticut assistant principal spoke about how open progressive teachers are to delivering one-sided democrat-based information in the classroom.

Then the conversation veered to reveal another pressing matter. He discussed how he can’t influence older conservative teachers and that he cannot fire them, so to “make an impact,” he hires liberal democrats to replace them as they age out of the job and retire. The Connecticut assistant principal considered teachers who believe that children are not old enough to make serious life-altering decisions about gender transition must be “hardcore religious,” or “hardcore conservative,” and said that if they do not support childhood transition then “You’re out. You’re done.”

This undermines the principles of parental rights being that the majority of parents have expressed concern over politics being introduced in the classroom, and a vast majority are even willing to switch their political affiliation based on education policies. While these are serious concerns completely overlooked by the Connecticut principal, Bowland then opened up about how he specifically refuses to hire teachers based on their religion.

The Connecticut principal described how he assumes applicants’ political beliefs based on their religious affiliation. He believes that Protestants are liberal and Catholics are conservative. Because of this belief, he refuses to hire Catholic teachers in order to ensure that teachers are more progressive.

This is stemmed from his apparent prejudice against conservatives and the idea that “if someone is raised hardcore Catholic, it’s like they’re brainwashed.” The Connecticut assistant principal was unable to connect the fact that his direct attempts to teach students to be liberal themselves can also be considered brainwashing. Nor did he express any concerns or remorse for breaking the law to further his political ideologies.

Project Veritas is known for undercover journalism. They are a non-profit establishment designed to expose corruption which has shined a light on various dishonest practices being allowed in American institutions, including schools. This latest video reveals how Catholics in the U.S. are being discriminated against by politically biased education officials like the Connecticut principal.

Religious discrimination in the workplace is illegal. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission clearly states that “Religious discrimination involves treating a person (an applicant or employee) unfavorably because of his or her religious beliefs. The law protects not only people who belong to traditional, organized religions, such as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism, but also others who have sincerely held religious, ethical or moral beliefs.” This is a well-known policy throughout the country, and so the Connecticut principal has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. In addition, the Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent came forward to decry Bowland’s actions.

What the investigation uncovers will affect not just the Connecticut assistant principal’s employment, but community relationships. For years parents have been growing more concerned about parental rights and politics entering teaching practices. Catholic teachers have now admittedly been discriminated against, enraging parents and community members who truly believe in equal rights for everyone.
