A Lakota school board member in Butler County, Ohio is being pressured to resign for posting a link to a porn site on her Facebook campaign page. She took down the link once she realized the mistake, admitting it was a typo. Nonetheless, other school board members held a meeting to pressure her to resign.

Boddy is an opponent of advanced sexual education practices. She opposes modern extreme measures to teach children about masturbation, sex toys, and advocates for abstinence. After the post went live, she took it down and issued a statement decrying vulgar pornography. She further expressed a concern that a single typo could lead to such sensitive material. Her experience is one of many, being that the average age of exposure to pornographic content is 11 and that is often accidental as middle school students research online for school assignments. Despite this, school board members are insisting that she be removed.

One school board member Lynda O’Conner expressed severe concern, being that students could access Body’s campaign page. She also noted that a mistake of this nature cannot be overlooked when posted to an official school board member’s social media page. O’Conner supported the current sexual education curriculum and called Boddy’s accusations that the class has gone too far, “deplorable.”

This school board member has been supporting the district’s superintendent, Matt Miller after Boddy opposed him expressing concern over potential plans to implement Critical Race Theory (CRT) into classrooms. Boddy accused Miller of avoiding her concerns and refusing to respond. O’Conner is a seasoned board member, but Boddy is newly elected after running on a campaign that specifically opposes CRT being taught in the classroom. On her website, Boddy for Lakota, she openly stated that “CRT is hateful and divisive to our children.” This stance is being expressed by parents across the nation, and caused many school board upsets in recent elections

This caused Boddy to make headlines just a few weeks ago as she and another board member clashed on this divisive topic. School board member Kelly Casper called Boddy out claiming that she is imposing her personal beliefs onto the community. Boddy merely responded that she was elected for her politics and intended to speak up for parents like her. Things became so contentious that a petition was created to remove her from the board. The sponsor of the petition is not named, and at the time of writing this article, 40% of comments against her are anonymous.

Whether the school board members are pressuring Boddy to resign over a simple Facebook post — that was removed after an apology and explanation of a simple typo — which no students or parents have reportedly complained about, or this is more deeply politically seeded than the board has expressed is unknown. Cases of teachers accidentally broadcasting porn to students in the school during lessons have actually increased as pornography becomes more normalized in society. Boddy holds firm, stating that the link she posted was an accident. Being that her post was put on a social media platform that does have user age requirements and restrictions, as well as the ability for users to report content they deem sensitive, the question of whether or not this is a removable offense has many implications.

By voting for Darbi Boddy to resign, her fellow school board members are merely making a formal request. Resignation is a personal choice. If Boddy refuses, they can try to remove her, but that process requires severe infractions. An offensive Facebook post (whether intended or not) may not be enough to impeach her, and that could be why the board has taken this route instead.
